Getting Here
Thank you for choosing Seward Windsong Lodge as your home-away-from-home in Seward. We look forward to seeing you!
Getting Here
You can get to Seward by automobile, by the Alaskan Railroad, or by deluxe motorcoach service. If you'll be driving, you may want to download and print our maps for reference.
If you haven't yet decided how you'll be getting to Seward, we're happy to make travel reservations for you — just call us (1-877-777-4079) and one of our Alaska travel specialists can help you book rail or motorcoach travel.
Local Shuttle Service
We operate a complimentary shuttle from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, serving the Seward train depot, airport, small boat harbor, and downtown Seward itself, where Kenai Fjords Tours and the Alaska SeaLife Center are located. However you get to Seward, once you arrive, you can leave the driving to us!
The Weather
From Spring through Fall, be prepared for temperatures ranging from 50° to 70°F, with the ever-present possibility of rain and wind. It's always a good idea to dress in layers—particularly if you're planning outdoor activities like hiking, rafting, or embarking on a glacier cruise—so that you can adjust as needed.
Activities in Seward
Exit Glacier is literally just up the road from the Lodge, and if you're staying with us, it's really something not to be missed—opportunities to get this close to a geology-shaping force of nature don't present themselves just every day! We offer thrice-daily naturalist-led walking tours of Exit Glacier, which you can reserve in advance or arrange with the front desk on arrival.
We might be biased, but we think one of the most exciting things to do in Seward is to embark on a Kenai Fjords National Park wildlife and glacier cruise. From breaching whales to teeming seabird rookeries to calving glaciers to the cutest sea otters on earth… you never know quite what you'll encounter, but you can be sure it will take your breath away.
The Alaska SeaLife Center, in downtown Seward, is Alaska's only public aquarium and sea animal rescue and rehabilitation facility. A visit to the Center is an excellent complement to a wildlife and glacier cruise. You'll come away with a deep appreciation of Alaska's wonderful marine ecosystem.
There's much more to do, of course: sea kayaking, fishing, shopping, visiting our local museums, touring a sled dog kennel, taking a leisurely float trip down the river… visit our Activities page for more information about some of these. Call our reservations line if you'd like us to arrange an activity in advance.
What to Bring
Much of what to bring will depend on your other plans in Seward. You're probably going to spend at least some time outdoors, though, if only just admiring the view. To that end, consider starting with the following:
- A daypack
- A moisture-wicking base layer garment (not cotton).
- A medium-weight middle layer garment, such as a fleece or sweater.
- A waterproof, breathable outer layer.
- Sunglasses
- Hat
- Binoculars
- Camera
- Walking shoes
